Research Assistants and Teaching Assistants Waiver

Program Purpose

To permit an individual employed at least half time by a public institution of higher education as a research or teaching assistant, and his/her spouse and children, to enroll in public institutions in Texas while paying the resident tuition rate.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Individuals who are teaching or research assistants, their spouses, or children;
  • The teaching or research assistant must be employed at least half time by a public institution of higher education in Texas in a position related to his/her degree program under the rules and regulations established by the employer institution.

Eligible Institutions

The waiver may be used at any public institution of higher education in Texas.

Application Process

The process for applying for a tuition waiver varies from college to college. Normally, the office of the registrar processes tuition waivers. However, waivers may also be processed by the admissions office and/or financial aid. The student must be able to provide the college or university with proof that he/she meets the program eligibility requirements.
