Program Purpose
Provides a tax credit (a reduction in the amount of taxes to be paid for the year) to families with students (taxpayer, spouse, or dependent children) in the first two years of college or vocational school, to make post-secondary education more affordable.
Eligibility Requirements
Families who paid educational expenses for an eligible student. Eligible students are those students who were:
- Enrolled at least 1/2 time an eligible institution in a program leading to a degree, certificate, or other recognized educational credential,
- Had not completed the first two years of undergraduate education,
- Have not been convicted of a federal or state felony for possessing or distributing a controlled substance before the end of the tax year in which the student is enrolled.
Award Amount
A tax credit of up to $1,500 per eligible student per year.
